It’s no secret that it’s been a while between drinks for the man they call Dave. Two years ago we launched Dave Zombie Hunter with the intent to follow up with the second half as soon as we could.

Since then not much has progressed and It’s been most frustrating to be unable to bring you any further adventures. The resolution to the problem has reared it’s head however in the form of one Rob O’Connor, yes that’s his work above and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s the SHIT. I mean look at that?!

I can’t wait to get the end of this story, featuring Rob’s amazing artwork, in front of you all. We’re tentatively aiming for an October launch, but nothing is set in concrete yet… although the artwork is flowing in already, so who knows?

Plenty more to come and thank you so much to anyone who asked when Dave would reappear over the last couple of years. Your patience will be rewarded.

Dave: Zombie Hunter #1 is currently being updated and tweaked for digital release. This includes remastered lettering throughout the entire first part, as well as small panel tweaks and dialogue updates.

The digital edition will also include a remastered version of the short prequel story Operation: Gehanna (which is also illustrated by Tim Ide) as well as the variant covers by Joel VDK and writer Stewart Cook from #1 AND a gallery showcasing various takes on Dave and his friends by a wide variety of amazing Australian artists.

How much will this cost you? NOTHING! That’s right, you can download it to read on your iPad or other e-reader for FREE. All we ask is that you share your love of Dave as much as possible by encouraging everyone you’ve ever met to have a read and to join this page. That’s all!

I would also like to apologise to those of you who keep asking when #2 is coming out. The completion of Dave: Zombie Hunter IS happening, just not at the pace I’d hoped. But rest assured Tim is making headway!

There is also a sequel in the works, known simply at this stage as Dave II. I’ll be working with the amazing Ryan Vella (see below) for this story and I’m really excited to see his take on the character.

As always I really appreciate your support, encouragement and nagging (Tim especially loves the nagging) and I hope you look forward to the release of Dave into the digital world as much as I do!

Another of the variant covers/posters for Dave: The Finale, this one by Australia’s own Dave Heinrich. Having someone like Dave work on our our mad little comic has been a total thrill! I mean how awesome is that pan wielding Father Monty??

As to where the final volume is? Tim’s finally free from an overwhelming work schedule and 2012 is gonna happen. We’ll both be appearing at SupaNova in Melbourne in April and likely Oz-ComicCon in Adelaide. So if you’re keen to get a sketch, buy Part One or simply say hi then please do so. I’ve been going back over Dave and taking a second look at pages I wasn’t entirely happy with. Towards the end of last year as I was putting it all together, I must admit to being a bit burnt out from viewing the same images over and over and reading my own jokes repeatedly (even if they did and do, still make me laugh out loud)

I kinda felt like the last few pages of the first half (Book One) didn’t perhaps get as much love as they deserved. The screen grab here is a re-working of the second to last page, upping the impact of Trevors mighty punch and re-inserting some panels that got (stupidly) left on the cutting room floor at the time. I mean LOOK at that last panel from Tim, it’s sheer bloody magic!!

More awesome to come (including new art from the second half real soon, right Timothy Bruce Ide?)

Work in progress on the FCBD Operation: Gehanna cover. We’re completely remastering it from it’s original printing. The dialogue and layout have been touched up and it will be printed in a SUPER SIZED format. AW YEAH!

I’ve just finished the script for Book Two and emailed it off to Tim.

Once he’s had a chance to digest, we’ll probably sit down and block it out together. From there Tim will then begin drawing in earnest.

Also we’re putting a remastered version of Operation: Gehanna together for Free Comic Book Day in May. If you’re in Adelaide you’ll be able to get this for free at Pulp Fiction Comics. If there’s any left over afterwards, I’ll be offering them for a very nominal fee here on the Dave blog for anyone that wants a copy in print

Shane Cummings of NecroScope (the zombie ‘corner’ of parent site Horror Scope) recently reviewed issue one of Dave: Zombie Hunter. You can check out his thoughts here. Personally I think it’s a great review (criticisms and all). Shane heaps praise on Tim’s artwork and as a huge fan of Tim’s, It’s great to see him get some recognition as one of Australia’s finest illustrators.
